Volvo XC60 Black Edition brings with it added style
Volvo cars are celebrated in the automotive industry for their timeless appeal. For instance, the current XC60, introduced in 2017, still maintains a fresh and competitive appearance in its segment even after nearly seven years of retaining the same look.
The continuous introduction of special models and thoughtful tweaks ensure that it remains fresh and desirable. The latest iteration continues this tradition, reinforcing its status as a standout choice in the SUV market. That said, the Swedish carmaker is introducing the Black Edition nameplate, which, as its name suggests, adds darkened bits and pieces to the XC60 both inside and outside.
For starters, only 23 examples have been put aside for the local market, and all are painted in a stunning onyx black hue. Other features include a high-gloss black grille, gloss-black 21-inch 5-spoke alloy wheels, blacked-out ‘iron mark’ insignia, ‘Volvo’ lettering, and other badging.
Moving inside, there is a charcoal headlining, and depending on your taste, buyers have a choice of charcoal Nappa leather-and-textile upholstery or charcoal ventilated Nappa leather upholstery.
The new XC60 Black Edition is available with a choice of two powertrain options: a mild-hybrid B5 Plus AWD with 183kW and 350Nm and a Recharge AWD in either the Plus or Ultimate guise with 340kW and 709Nm.
“The XC60 plays an essential role in the Volvo Cars line-up both here in South Africa and worldwide, so we’re delighted to celebrate this important model’s sustained success with these exclusive new Black Edition derivatives. We’ve no doubt they’ll be snapped up quickly,” said Greg Maruszewski, Managing Director at Volvo Car South Africa.
Since its debut, the XC60 has been instrumental in transforming the Volvo brand into a formidable player in the SUV market. Despite its age, it continues to hold its own against newer rivals, thanks to its spacious, premium interior, a nicely balanced ride, and exceptional handling. The Black Edition, with its unique features, adds an extra layer of attraction to this already amazing SUV.
