Following its brief appearance in the middle of 2021, Volkswagen South Africa has now confirmed the arrival time of its Taigo sub-compact SUV offering.
The new Volkswagen Taigo joins the T SUV range that is made up of the T-Cross, T-Roc, Tiguan, Tiguan AllSpace and Touareg.
Volkswagen hasn’t been keen on oversharing but from what we see, it simply follows VW’s latest design language that is also worn by other T models and features full LED headlights and sporty alloys.
The interior has been digitised and fitted with the latest generation of infotainment systems that VW claims sets high technology standards in its class. Unlike the T-Cross on which the Taigo is based, it can be had with a tilting and sliding panoramic sunroof.
It slots between the T-Cross and T-Roc SUVs, thanks to dimensions of 4.26 m in length, 1.75 m in width and 1.49 m in height.
For our market, the new Taigo will only be available with a three-cylinder TSI engine with 85 kW and 200 Nm. A sole DSG transmission has also been thrown in the mix.
The new VW Taigo is scheduled to go on sale in SA in the first half of this year and prices will be announced closer to its SA launch date.
