Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce undergoes dynamic fine-tuning
The Alfa Romeo Junior made its first public stint at this year’s 1000 Miglia race event, following its debut in April of this year.
Now, the brand’s engineering development team has finalised the dynamic development of the project ahead of testing by insiders at the Balocco Proving Ground. Initial tests show that the electric motor will produce 206kW which matches the output of the Giulia, Stelvio, and Tonale Veloce variants, thus making it the sportiest version in the range.
As for the torque figure, it’s rated at 345Nm, which is 55Nm less than what’s swirled by the Stelvio and Giulia Veloce models.
This is the same dynamic development team whose work can be traced back to the 4C, 8C, Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio, Giulia GTA, and the upcoming 33 Stradale.
Not only that, the team also focuses on maximising performance, road handling, and pure driving pleasure. That said, the sports suspension has been lowered by 25mm, the front and rear anti-roll bars boast a sportier setting for enhanced cornering prowess and a high level of grip, while the braking system has front discs that measure over 380mm with 4-piston monobloc callipers.
The Junior Veloce rides on high-performance 20-inch tyres that, according to Alfa Romeo, are also specific to electric vehicles and offer extensive levels of grip.
As mentioned, the testing will be conducted at the Balocco Proving Ground, where professional drivers from the industry will alternately sample the variants as part of the phase leading up to model approval.
For the first time, outside drivers not on the Alfa Romeo development team will have access to the 20-kilometre Langhe circuit. Just so you know, this is the same circuit where cars from the last few decades as well as the unforgettable Alfa Corse team tested and fine-tuned its racing cars.
Despite packing a fully electric powerplant, the Junior compact car is poised to continue the brand’s legacy of delivering vehicles that are both enjoyable and dynamic to drive. However, it remains to be seen if it will make its way to SA to compete within the compact car segment.
