Audi's ultra-fast electric vehicle chargers go live across Mzansi
At the beginning of the year, Audi and GridCars announced a partnership that will see the installation of ultra-fast charging stations across the country as electric cars slowly trickle into the market.
Roughly seven months later, the two entities have announced that the installation of 22 EV charging stations across Mzansi has been finalised. The facilities represent a total of 70 charge points with capacity ranging between 22 kW AC, 80 kW DC, and 150 kW DC ultra-fast charging.
Regardless of the EV model or brand ownership, the charging facilities are available immediately to all South Africans.
Regarding the 150 kW DC chargers, these will enable owners to add approximately 340 km of driving range in 30 minutes. The ultra-fast chargers have been rolled out along national roads that include:
- N1 - Colesburg, Caltex, Northern Cape
- N2 - Mosselbay, Langeberg Mall, Western Cape
- N3 - Tugela North, Engen, Kwa-Zulu Natal
- N4 - Riverside Mall, Mbombela, Mpumalanga
The 80 kW DC fast charging stations will allow the addition of about 185 km in 30 minutes at stations located here:
- N1 - Ventersburg, Caltex, Free State
- N1 - Richmond, Caltex, Northern Cape
- N2 - The Crags, Engen, Plettenburg Bay, Western Cape
