Fully electric Maserati GranCabrio undergoes testing
If you weren’t aware, Maserati is transitioning to become a fully-electric car brand by 2030. The marque has already introduced its first EV model in the form of the GranTurismo model.
While the GranTurismo model will likely launch sometime in 2023, the Modena-based carmaker is hard at work readying the convertible version that bears the GranCabrio nameplate. The prototypes of the Maserati GranCabrio have now taken to the streets of Modena for the initial stages of development testing.
At this stage, there is minimal information regarding the GranCabrio, but we speculate it could use the GranTurismo Folgore’s 800-Volt architecture derived from Formula E. This pairs permanent magnet motors (two at the back and one on the front axles) for 300 kW of power and a 92.5 kWh battery pack with a discharge capacity of 560 kW and 1,350 Nm.
The GranTurismo Folgore dashes silently from 0-100 km/h in 2.7 seconds before maxing out at 320 km/h, but we expect the GranCabrio to be a tad slower due to the added weight.
The interior will likely be the same as the GranTurismo, thanks to the brand’s Intelligent Assistant Multimedia system, a new infotainment system, a comfort display, a digital clock, plus an optional heads-up display.
As mentioned earlier, the GranCabrio is currently undergoing testing at Modena and will likely launch after the GranTurismo models.
