Porsche debuts its new Macan EV

The EV Porsche Macan has been highly anticipated since its first announcement in 2019, and it's finally here. The Macan has shown great sales success over the years, being the second-best-selling unit from the brand, following the Cayenne. Now, Porsche's new EV compact SUV will continue to provide the traditional sporty nature with plenty of power, what promises to be astounding comfort, and classically sharp Porsche styling.

This gorgeous crossover will come in two variations: the Macan 4 and the Macan Turbo. Both units come with two electric motors, one for each axle. The Macan 4 delivers a robust 300kW, and a rather strong 650Nm of torque, and a claimed electric range of 613km. In this variation, the Macan 4 does a spirited 0-100km time of 5.2 seconds.

The Turbo, the more performance-oriented version, provides 470kW with a monumental 1,130Nm of torque and an estimated 591km of range. This brutal compact SUV will have a 0-100 time of 3.3 seconds, which is astounding yet hardly surprising for modern EVs. Furthermore, the Turbo will have a top speed of 260km/h, while the Macan 4 will ship with a marginally less impressive 220km/h.

It’s the first model using the Volkswagen Group's ‘Premium Platform Electric’. This platform was co-developed with Audi to ensure an industry-leading EV platform that will be the base for further EV development from the group. Audi will follow soon with its first model to adopt the platform, the Q6 e-Tron.

This new foundation uses lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 100kWh. It also boasts an impressive DC charging output of up to 270kW, allowing users to charge their cars from 10-80% in around 21 minutes. If you want to install a wall box charger at home, the power output is rated at 11kW.

The updated appearance, which starts with better aerodynamics that reduce the drag coefficient to 0.25, further enhances its electric appeal. The headlights are certainly a stand-out feature. The modular matrix LED lights create a menacing presence in the dark, and the embedded four-point daytime running lights help you avoid blending in with traffic. Its new look is simplistic yet classy and suits the new power unit's character well.

According to Porsche South Africa, the Macan EV will make its local appearance in 2025, and pricing will be announced closer to its launch date.
