Typically, when news breaks that a manufacturer has set a record, this comes in the form of a fastest lap time, hill climb record or acceleration and braking tests. Porsche now holds the new record for the shortest time to travel between Thailand and Singapore with a production EV. A record we didn't know mattered but an impressive feat nonetheless.
The record-setting car was the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo, driven by a three-person team representing Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. This event was one of many celebrating Porsche's 75th anniversary.
The record for the fastest journey from Thailand to Singapore set by the Porsche Taycan is now 29 hours and 15 minutes. To achieve this, Porsche required practical, high-speed charging infrastructure. It found just that with Shell's Recharge High-Performance Charging network, allowing for quick and efficient stops to fill the batteries.
This record raises an important question that often comes up in discussions about EV travel in our country: do we possess the necessary infrastructure to support electric vehicles? We know that the main route between Johannesburg and Cape Town has the infrastructure to support such a trip. Could we see a similar record set here in SA?
