Porsche's Jumbo Fully-Electric SUV Teased
Besides announcing the fully-electric Cayenne at Porsche's Annual Press Conference, the Stuttgart-based firm took the stand to throw in a teaser of its 7-seater 3-row SUV.
Hidden under a cover, it isn't easy to determine what it looks like, and Porsche isn't prepared to say too much except that it will be fully electric and built on the SSP Sports platform that the marque is currently developing.
As such, some rendering artists have taken it upon themselves to predict what the Porsche 7-seater could look like. The images here did the rounds on Kolesa, a popular Russian platform, as early as last year that showed the familiar rear lights of the Cayenne while the front draws heavily from the electric Taycan.
Dubbed as a 'new car concept' by company chairman Oliver Blume, the more prominent SUV will slot above the fully-electric Cayenne SUV that Porsche is earmarked to introduce in the coming years, likely in 2026. If the reports are to be believed, the fully-electric 7-seater will have impressive performance and autonomous driving systems while also offering a completely new experience inside the cabin.
Insiders reportedly said that the massive SUV would not resemble any Porsche and would be a mixture of sedan and crossover. Strange.
While details surrounding the unknown model remain scarce, it could use a massive battery pack with a range of over 645 km on a single charge alone.
There is a lot that Porsche still has to do before the new SUV joins the fray. For a clear perspective, the brand aims to have 50% of its cars sold to be fully electric by 2025 and 80% by 2030. That said, an electric Macan will launch sometime in 2024, while the 718 range will get a major revamp that will see the line-up ditching the internal combustion engine for an electric powerplant.
When the jumbo SUV finally debuts, it will likely go head-to-head with premium 7-seater SUVs such as the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS.
