Suzuki eVX concept unveiled as the brand's first electric car

Suzuki may not form part and parcel of the dialogue when talking about EVs.

The good thing is that the marque seems to have caught up with electrification. At the Auto Expo 2023, Suzuki took the stand to unveil its first fully-electric compact SUV concept dubbed eVX. It's 4,300 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and sits 1,600 mm high, making it a tad bigger than the Vitara.

On the outside, the eVX boasts exterior design cues we've never seen on any Suzuki. If you look closely at the pictures, you'll see slim v-shaped headlights, a large Suzuki emblem, and digital exterior mirrors that look similar to those fitted in the Audi e-Tron crossover. In typical EV style, the front end has been sealed off, and the eVX rides on aerodynamic-enhanced wheels.

While we have no information regarding the interior, Suzuki promises that the eVX will deliver an electric-only range of 550 km, thanks to the 60 kWh battery pack placed in the floor.

"I am delighted to unveil the eVX, our first global strategic EV. At the Suzuki Group, addressing global warming is a priority. We are promoting a range of global measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions", says Toshihiro Suzuki, president of Suzuki.

According to Suzuki, it is still closely studying the local market to see if the eVX is feasible for the Mzansi market and rollout information will be provided from 2025 onwards.

That aside, Suzuki SA says we can look forward to its new Grand Vitara this year which will have the option of a hybrid drivetrain.
