Porsche has been hard at work testing its 3D-printed bodyform full bucket seat and the customised seat is now available as part of the new Performance Parts from the brand’s Tequipment.
From February 2022 going forward, the new 3D-printed seats suitable for various Boxter, Cayman and 911 models can be ordered from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur as standard features.
The 3D-printed seats feature a new central section while part of the cushion and backrest surfaces are produced using a 3D printer and can be had in three different rigidity grades. When compared to normal full bucket seats, the new 3D-printed seats are more than 8% lighter.
"Seats adapted to individual drivers have been available for a long time in professional motorsport. Now Porsche also offers a road-approved customisation with different rigidity grades as standard," says Porsche test driver Lars Kern.
Based on the brand’s lightweight full bucket seat, the 3D-printed bodyform full bucket seat also features base support made from expanded polypropylene bonded to a breathable comfort layer. A Race-Tex non-slip material is used on the outer skin of the seats.
Buyers can choose between Black, Guards Red and Racing Yellow while Arctic Grey, Ultramarine and Shard Blue will be added in February. Further customisation in the form of 3D-printed bodyform full bucket seats will also be made available.
The printed bucket seats are available for all Porsche models that are offered with the conventional full bucket seat and can be retrofitted in cars that have been delivered already.
Porsche also says that some models can even have the full bucket seat fitted on the passenger side with the process taking just a few minutes at a Porsche Centre.
