Land Rover Defender 130 teased
It seems that we were right. In April, Land Rover was caught testing at the Nurburgring what appeared to be the Defender 110 with a longer wheelbase.
To confirm our speculations, the British carmaker has now teased its new Defender 130 which is earmarked to make its premiere on 31 May. Details are scarce, but Land Rover says the 130 will offer seating for up to eight passengers and join the 90 and 110 variants.
The increase in size means that the Defender 130 will offer a 2-3-3 seat configuration, thanks to an overall length increase of 342 mm to 5,100 mm compared to the 110. The new 130 will feature the latest digital and advanced integrated chassis technologies.
In terms of derivatives, we expect the 110 trims to be carried over to the Defender 130 which consists of a whopping 15 variants to choose from.
The same powerplant options are expected to power the Defender 130 with the V8 headlining the range. As spotted at the ‘Ring, the test mule was wearing four exhaust tips that look similar to those fitted in the current V8s and this could mean it could pack the same 5.0-litre supercharged powerplant with 386 kW and 625 Nm plus a 48-Volt light hybrid system.
Like all Land Rover Defender models, the 130 is expected to wield an 8-speed automatic gearbox and permanent four-wheel-drive.
