Mercedes-AMG Petronas has confirmed that 7-time World Champion, Lewis Hamilton has tested positive for COVID-19. Hamilton is said to have taken 3 tests last week before the Bahrain Grand Prix, all of which returned negative results. After waking up on Monday morning with some mild symptoms, he took another precautionary test that turned out positive. Another retest confirmed the positive result.
The report states that Lewis was in contact with someone the previous week who has recently tested positive for the coronovirus strain. The report describes Hamilton's symptoms as 'mild' and that he feels otherwise fit and healthy. He is now recovering in isolation as per COVID-19 protocols.
Hamilton, who won the Bahrain race this past weekend will now certainly miss the 2nd Sakhir race and it probably means he will miss the season finale in Abu Dhabi as well. In order for Hamilton to return to the track, he needs a negative test result.
Mercedes-AMG has not announced his replacement as yet but will do later this week.
