Upcoming Chery Omoda C5 Scores a 5-Star Rating at Euro NCAP
Chery South Africa is looking to expand its product range with the addition of the Omoda C5 SUV.
While details regarding the new model remain under tight wraps, the Euro NCAP safety results at least give us something to talk about. The Chery Omoda C5 scored a full 5-star rating.
It is the first Chery vehicle to be tested by Euro NCAP, thanks to a rigid build quality and a safety cell that can withstand pressures of over 1,800 Mpa. According to Chery, the use of ultra-high tensile strength steel has allowed the Omoda C5’s body shell to remain intact during front and side crash tests at high speeds.
Speaking of the scoring, the Omoda C5 scored 87% for the protection of adult occupants and child passengers. It received 88% for the quality and efficacy of its safety-assistance systems.
Among other safety features, it comes with an airbag between the front occupants and 16 distinct advanced driver-assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control with an in-built radar system.
“For Chery, safety is not negotiable. This means that all our models, from the Tiggo 4 Pro to the upcoming OMODA C5, offer a very high level of safety features as standard and why families can safely trust their Chery to keep them safe around town and on longer trips,” says Tony Liu, the Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery SA.
The Omoda C5 was unveiled at the 2021 Auto Guangzhou, and when it launches in SA, it will join the Tiggo 4 Pro, Tiggo 7 Pro, Tiggo 8 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro Max models. Judging by the unit we spotted recently, its launch could happen in the coming months.
