Watch: Teased Honda Type R to finally debut this July

It doesn't seem to have the extreme look of the current model, though.

Teased Honda Type R to finally debut this July

Based on the 11-generation Civic, Honda has once again teased its new Type R, which is earmarked to make its official debut on July 20.

Just recently, the new Honda Type R was captured going flat out around the Nurburgring wearing a distinctive red camouflage and if we are right, it could have been trying to snatch Renault’s title as the fastest hot hatch around the ‘Green Hell’ a benchmark set by the Megane R.S. Trophy-R.

Coming back to the teaser, it depicts the Type R’s exhaust note as it tackles the ‘Ring’ and by the look of things it maintains the outgoing model’s proportions, yet with a wider track and width including a beefier bodykit.

We’d be correct to say the extreme look of the outgoing model is gone and seems to have been toned down a bit. However, it maintains its aggressive stance by featuring a high-mounted rear wing, triple exhaust tips, integrated rear diffuser, splitter, and skirts.

What Honda has kept a secret is the power output of the new Type R but reports suggest that the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is an evolution of the current one, could have slightly more power than the 228 kW and 400 Nm offered by the outgoing model. Power will be channelled to the front axle via a 6-speed manual transmission.

Details surrounding the new Type R are still scarce, so we’ll have to wait until the 20th of July when it finally loses its camo.
