Audi RS e-Tron GT Performance: More attitude for the GT
While the Audi e-Tron GT is regarded as Audi’s first electric sedan, its true charm lies in its thrilling performance. It’s an EV that delivers immense driving pleasure, rivalling its cousin, the Porsche Taycan, in both excitement and capability.
Arriving in 2022 with a powerful 440kW and 830Nm, the RS e-Tron GT quickly established itself as a formidable electric vehicle. It's insanely fast, yet also comfortable and functional.
In an effort to raise the bar for the saloon, Audi has unveiled its flagship RS e-tron GT Performance. First off, the new RS e-Tron GT Performance now boasts up to 680kW, thanks to a bigger 105kWh battery pack instead of the 93.4kWh that powers the existing RS e-Tron GT.
According to Audi, the electric motors are lighter to the tune of 10kg a piece over the old RS e-Tron GT. The battery is also 9kgs lighter, tipping the weight scales at 625kg. Audi increased the maximum charging power from 50kW to 320kW. This allows the e-Tron GT Performance to charge from 10 to 80% in 18 minutes at a high-power charging facility.
For enhanced convenience, Audi has added more information about the battery to the onboard virtual information display; these include battery temperature, pre-conditioning status, and a quick-charge forecast.
The suspension, on the other hand, has been tweaked for better comfort, thanks to a newly developed standard air suspension with 2-chamber/2-valve technology. Buyers will also be able to add the wheel-selective active suspension system at an additional charge.
The new RS e-Tron GT Performance rides on 20-inch wheels wrapped around new multi-spoke rims that have been optimised for rolling resistance. Audi says buyers can opt for bigger 21-inch wheels.
From an aesthetic perspective, the e-Tron GT is available with an optional matte darkened carbon roof, which can be paired with other optional carbon camouflage elements for the first time. It also wears a stunning Bedford Green exterior finish, which is strictly for the e-Tron GT Performance.
Audi has not revealed the performance figures for the e-Tron GT Performance. However, based on the increased battery capacity and upped power figures, it is poised to become another high-performance EV, but don’t expect it to come cheap. For reference, the current RS e-tron GT carries a price tag of R3,527,400.
