Rimac Nevera Smashes the EV Record at Nurburgring
The Rimac brand has now become known for shattering records. At the end of 2022, the Nevera set a new world record for electric production cars after accelerating all the way to 412km/h at the Papenburg test track, thus making it the fastest production EV in the world.
As if that wasn’t enough, the same hypercar broke 23 records in one day this year. This is just another testament that EVs aren’t as ‘boring’ as many may think.
This time around, the Rimac Nevera has broken yet another record by lapping around the Nurburgring in a time of 7:05:298, beating the record placed by the Tesla Model S Plaid by 20 seconds.
Driven by Croatian racing driver Martin Kodrić, the Nevera raced around the ‘Green Hell’ fitted with Michelin Cup2R tyres.
While this record remains absolutely impressive in the world of EVs, it’s still some ways off the record set by the 782kW-wielding hybridised Mercedes-AMG One in 2022 with a time of 6:30.705.
“We had challenging weather conditions during our practice sessions this week and have chosen what seems like one of the hottest days on the track this summer to set a lap time. However, a 7:05:298 lap time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife is commendable. The fact that the Nevera can achieve this kind of speed on track when it’s been developed to be a comfortable hyper GT for the road is what makes it so special”.
The Rimac Nevera is powered by four electric motors, drawing energy from a 120kWh battery pack. This setup produces 1,427kW of power, a mountain-moving 2,350Nm of torque and a 1.9-second sprint to 100km/h.
The Nevera showcased its astounding capabilities at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, setting a new record for production vehicles with a time of 49.32 seconds, and the new Nurburgring record will undoubtedly go down in the history books.
