Spied Mercedes-AMG S63 plug-in hybrid continues testing
As the flagship model in the Mercedes-Benz range, the S-Class continues to make absolute sense for those seeking to travel in opulence.
A few weekends ago, the local arm of the Stuttgart-based marque introduced the S-Class to the local shores in S350d and S500 4Matic guises but by the look of things, a more potent AMG S63 is likely to join the range in the coming months.
The new Mercedes-AMG S63 was spied flexing its muscles around the Nurburgring partially covered. In the spy images, the S63 seems to be getting a more aggressive front fascia, unlike the standard models as it’s always the case with AMG models.
It also features a Panamericana grille, quad exhaust tips, a lower suspension setup plus bigger brakes.
Details regarding the powertrain remain unknown but if we were to speculate, it could make use of a twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with an electric motor that’s good for 514 kW sent to all four wheels via the brand’s 4Matic+ system and a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
As an alleged plug-in hybrid, the S63 could also offer all-electric driving for a limited range.
There are no images of the interior but we expect the new Mercedes-AMG S63 to have a few tweaks in the form of AMG seats, steering wheel and additional AMG branding.
The new Mercedes-AMG S63 will likely debut sometime before the end of the year and will likely arrive in SA in 2023.
