The Volkswagen ID. Buzz has been in the making for quite some time following its concept debut in 2017 and we are glad to announce that it has finally made its much-awaited premiere.

Clothed in nearly full production garment, the ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo fully-electric buses are built on the brand’s Modular Electric Drive Kit which is the world's first scalable mass production platform for all-electric cars.

Both models feature a 77 kWh battery pack with a gross energy content of 82 kWh that sends power to a single 150 kW and 310 Nm rear-mounted electric motor – this is the same setup found in the ID. 4.

According to VW, the battery integrated deep down in the sandwich floor and the light electric drive results in good weight distribution and a low vehicle centre of gravity for better handling and agility.

The lithium-ion battery packs of the new Volkswagen ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz can be recharged at wall boxes and public charging stations with 11 kW AC. A CCS plug on a DC fast charging increases charging rates up to 170 kW and the battery pack is charged from 5-80% in about 30 minutes.

In terms of sizes, the ID. Buzz duo’s wheelbase matches the current T6.1’s 2,988 mm, the length of both models is 4,712 mm with a height of between 1,937 mm and 1,938 mm depending on the equipment. With a width of 1,985 mm, the ID. Buzz is wider than the T6.1.

With space for five passengers, the ID. Buzz features what VW calls a generously designed interior with a lounge-like friendly ambience plus a boot space that is rated at 1,121 litres and that can be further expanded to 2,205 litres by folding down the second row of seats. In the case of the ID. Buzz Cargo, VW claims it can fit in two Euro pallets when loaded sideways.

The exterior of the ID. Buzz incorporates a V-shaped hood between the LED headlights plus optional two-tone paintwork. The rear features LED taillights linked by a coast-to-coast light strip.

The interior boasts a standard 10” digital instrument cluster, while a bigger 12” can be had at an extra charge. In addition, recycled plastics are used and the interior is completely free of animal leather.

The new ID Buzz series is produced by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles at the company’s main plant in Hanover and sales are earmarked to begin in European countries by May.
