Volvo's back with a smaller, future-proof EV
I have driven a fair share of electric cars and can't say I'm entirely sold. Yet there is one brand which genuinely impressed me with its EV potential. Brands are trying to ensure that the heritage and DNA remain embedded in their vehicles, despite lacking a combustion engine.
However, Volvo seemed to adapt to the change just fine, building cars that remain safe and luxurious, but with an electric punch to leave nearly all hot hatches in the dust. I am excited to see what Volvo has done with its latest edition, The EX30. Their smallest SUV yet.
In true Volvo fashion, their priority for the all-new EX30 is, to no surprise, safety. They puffed, saying: "We're a leader in safety, always have been and always will be".
Furthermore, they've made substantial efforts to ensure that the battery poses as little threat to the passengers as possible by strengthening the undercarriage to protect the batteries further in an incident. However, the best way to be safe in an accident is to avoid it entirely, and their buffet of safety features ensures a greater level of accident avoidance.
One of the latest safety features in their EX30 is to decrease the number of bicycle accidents, believe it or not. One of the most common accidents involving bicycles is due to car doors being opened in the path of a cyclist. To minimise incidents in their new city-focused SUV, the EX30 will utilise sensors to detect cyclists and other road users heading into the vehicle's blind spot. This will give visual and audio warnings.
This comes as a response to their efforts to improve city safety and is one of many features which enhance day-to-day security. The Volvo EX30 will make its global debut on the 7th of June.
As one of the leading EV manufacturers, I look forward to experiencing this new electric machine from this elegant Swedish manufacturer. There aren't many small electric SUVs at the moment, and this new SUV perfectly fits the bill of future-proofing city spaces.
