Want a Porsche 911 camper?

Knowing Porsche, setting up the rooftop tent will be easy…

Want a Porsche 911 camper?

Here’s the thing: It’s not often we mention Porsche when talking about anything great outdoor-related. Yet, the automaker becomes part and parcel of the dialogue when talking about breaking lap records.

While buyers can enjoy their Porsche car however they want, they’ll be happy to note that Porsche has found a workable plan to let owners experience the great outdoors by introducing a two-person roof tent from its Tequipment list. Definitely a refreshing take on camping…

The new roof tent can be mounted on the roofs of the 911, Macan, Cayenne, Panamera and Taycan, both with and without roof rails. It weighs approximately 56 kg and can carry about 190 kg for cars with roof rails or 140 kg for those without. The tent boasts a hard case that’s been developed at the Weissach Development Centre and co-designed by Studio F.A Porsche in Zell am See.

Sadly, though, drivers will have to take it easy on the gas pedal since the top speed of the car with the roof tent installed is capped at 130 km/h.

As standard, the tent has two side windows and a roof window plus an integrated high-density polyfoam mattress. Its walls are made of a breathable cotton blend and they mimic the fly line of the 911 and spawn the brand’s logo. Designed for all weather conditions, the tent has water-resistant zips plus a separate rain cover for entry.

A highly insulating quilted lining in Light Grey, insect guard, additional black-out function, and a head end with a mountain silhouette complete the look of the interior. It’s available in either black/light grey and black/dark grey hard case and soon, buyers will be able to add an inner tent, a heated blanket and a shoe and bag organiser.

The tent isn’t available for the GT, Cabriolet and Targa models.

The local availability of the roof tent remains a mystery at this stage, but buyers in Germany must get ready to part ways with €4,9802 (about R99,600) when it goes on sale in November 2022.
