As new as it is in the market following its local introduction to SA in April, Chery’s Omoda brand is expanding its local C5 range by introducing the Luxury and Luxury S trim levels.

Initially, the C5 compact SUV range consisted of three trims; Tech, Elegance and Elegance S models. As for the new grades, they will slot between the Tech and Elegance models.

In terms of specifications, the Luxury models feature 18″ precision cut alloys wrapped with 215/55 tyres home to red brake callipers, a stylish roof-mounted spoiler, and a sunroof for that added sporty appeal. Buyers can have the duo with a dual colour scheme where the roof is painted in a contrasting colour to the rest of the body.

The Elegance model can be distinguished by its vibrant red detailing in the front bumper and a roof-mounted spoiler.

Moving inside, both models upgrade from cloth seats to leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, an electric-operated tailgate, a 360-degree camera system and an 8-speaker system for the Luxury S.

Powering the entire range is the same 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 115 kW and 230 Nm of torque sent to the front wheels via a CVT transmission.

Priced at R477,900 for the Luxury and R479,900 for the Luxury S model, the pricing comes with a comprehensive 5-year/150,000 km warranty, a 5-year/70,000 km service plan, as well as a 1-million km/ 10-year engine warranty.

Chinese manufacturers have seen a significant increase in Mzansi sales, especially the Chery brand, since its re-introduction to the local market in 2021. The brand has expanded its footprint by adding the Omoda brand in April, which sets its aim on buyers prioritising luxury.

That said, the brand has been making strides in the respective stable with its new C5, and the new additional models will further give patrons more options to choose from.
