The most powerful production AMG… ever!

Mercedes-AMG has lifted the covers from its GT 63 S E Performance

After throwing a number of teasers, Mercedes-AMG has finally pulled back the covers off its GT 63 S E Performance as its first-ever plug-in hybrid.

It packs so much grunt thanks to the combination of a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine, a rear axle-mounted electric motor as well as a 6.1 kWh battery pack. The mixture is good for a combined power output of 620 kW and 1,400 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful-ever model from AMG.

The electric motor alone develops 150 kW and it is integrated with an electrically shifted 2-speed gearbox plus an electronically-controlled limited-slip rear differential in a compact electric drive unit.

With the AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance dashes from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 316 km/h. It does so while shifting through an AMG Speedshift MCT-9G gearbox.

The hybridised AMG GT 63 S E Performance battery pack can be recharged via a 3.7 kW onboard AC charger at a charging station, wall box or household socket. With a fully charged battery, Mercedes-AMG promises 12 km worth of pure electric driving range.

The exterior features a front apron that is based on the design of the two-door AMG GT, wider air intakes as well as three vertical fins that channel air into the wheel arches. The rear boasts an apron with an integrated plug-in charging flap, trapezoidal twin exhaust tips as well as an ‘E Performance insignia.

It can be had in four matt paint finishes, five metallic finishes and two non-metallic finishes whilst also giving buyers the option to accentuate the car with the new AMG Night Package II or a combination of the Night Package and Carbon Package.

It rides on new 20″ and 21″ light-alloy wheels, each in two colour variants with the exclusive Edition also available.

The stopping prowess is offered by a standard AMG ceramic high-performance composite brake system. Other features include the latest AMG Ride Control+ suspension with the new damping system.

Inside, there is a standard Widescreen Cockpit with MBUX multimedia system with AMG hybrid-specific displays and functions and an AMG Performance steering wheel in a twin-spoke design.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is also available in many interior individual choices and five further colour options in Exclusive Nappa Style leather. There are seven driving modes; Electric, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, RACE, Slippery and Individual.

The new Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance will make its debut at the IAA Show in Munich in the coming weeks.
