Cars in the Park promises a spectacular show
Cars in the Park is one of the biggest gatherings for car collectors and enthusiasts in South Africa. Unlike traditional car shows, the variety of models on show is different from others, with unique builds like classic muscle cars, exotic supercars, and wacky creations around every turn.
Cars in the Park returns to Zwartkops Raceway, with the exhibition cars parking along the sides of the 2.4-kilometre race track. To fill a space as large as the ground surrounding the track, over 2,500 vehicles are due to attend, with an estimated 10,000 spectators. With such a broad selection of vehicles, there are sure to be a couple to pique your interest.
The kind of metal you'll find at Cars in the Park varies, but there is massive classic involvement. The Cobra Club is one of the larger groups on the day, with a broad selection of classic Cobras and Daytonas. Though unimogs are usually an uncommon sight, a few are likely to attend to show track dwellers what mechnical capability looks like.
JDM cars are also a hot topic, and their owners are as enthusiastic as it gets, so be sure to keep an eye out for several 350Zs and GT86 models, which will likely come with bold modifications. If the brap-brap-brap of a rotary is what you prefer, there is a good chance that you can whet your appetite with several RX7s.
Some slightly less flamboyant but just as impressive builds in the form of bakkies, station wagons, and kombis will be poised for a picture too. If an element of class and grace is more to your taste, then the pre-war cars will be up your alley, sitting in perfectly restored condition and waiting for you to take a gander at them.
It is a big year for the Porsche 911, and Cars in the Park will do its best to celebrate this legend of motoring and performance. There will be several 911s, new and old, to take a look at and appreciate just how even the older models walked that exotic but capable tightrope.
The 42nd addition of Cars in the Park will be held on August 4, 2024, at the Zwartkops race track near Pretoria, with over 100 car clubs in attendance. Tickets for the event start at R120 per adult, and the gates open at 08:30. Entry for children under the age of 12 is free.
