Revving Up the Winter Season
Classic cars shine at Piston Ring's car meet in Joburg.
There is little to do besides work, braai, shopping or playing golf in Johannesburg. Yet the motoring community continues to have their calendars filled with events. Piston Ring is one of the older groups in Johannesburg, and they specialise in showing off their well-kept and restored classics from before the 80s.
Piston Ring began in the 70s as a smaller group of 70 members and, over the years, has flourished into one of the most prominent classic car groups in SA, with over 1,200 members and around 3,000 classic cars.
This past weekend, Piston Ring got together to show off their summer's work and displayed some unique cars. The selection was broad, with numerous European and American cars, including a few muscle classics. A stunning Pontiac Trans AM in white was a nice touch, a Jaguar E-Type, which always adds a fair amount of class to an event, a selection of Mk1 and Mk2 Golfs, a few Volkswagen Beetles, one of which was heavily modified, and a selection of Corvettes, including a gorgeous Stingray.
Besides the classic Ferraris drawing in the crowds, an impressive display of American muscle and custom-built hot rods catered to the discerning tastes of American car enthusiasts.
The chosen venue for the Piston Ring car meet added an extra touch of enchantment to the event. Nestled within a scenic forested area in Modderfontein, owners and spectators alike found respite from the winter sun's rays in the shade.
Piston Ring's successful kickoff to the season set the stage for an exciting series of events in Johannesburg. If you are passionate about classic cars and wish to participate in future gatherings, keep an eye on Piston Ring's social media channels.
With more car meets on the horizon, Piston Ring promises to keep the classic car community engaged and enthralled, ensuring that the legacy of these timeless classics continues to thrive in Johannesburg and, ultimately, SA.
