Changan Hunter K50 REEV Review: Workhorse or a tech showoff?

The Changan Hunter K50 REEV is new to the South African market, and it brings something almost entirely new to the local bakkie segment. A 2.0-litre turbocharged range extender engine paired with a 200kW electric motor, it has the pulling power and instant torque of an EV, but minus the range anxiety that usually comes with one. Priced at R799,900, it makes a strong case for itself in a segment that has always been dominated by usual diesel-powered suspects. In this review, Ntsako Mthethwa gets behind the wheel to find out whether the Hunter REEV is a legitimate workhorse or simply a tech showoff wrapped up in bakkie clothing. Can a REEV bakkie from Changan genuinely challenge the establishment? Watch to find out.
