South African Formula 4 star on the rise

For many of us, racing is a dream that few get to explore. Due to the high-pressure racing environment, the most successful racing drivers are taught to handle the up-close action from a young age. Unfortunately, finding your way from our local tracks to the international spotlight is tricky for us Saffers, so young talent deserves to be celebrated.

Mika Abrahams began his journey five years ago, when he caught the bug while playing a racing game at a friend's house, and his dream of racing in Formula One blossomed. After expressing an interest to his father on the ride home, he soon found himself behind the wheel of a kart, and it was here that his natural talent became apparent.

Competing in Rotax Micromax in his first season, Mika learned the tracks and racing as a whole. It wasn't long before he proved his worth, achieving nine trophies in his second season in 2019. After his second season, he decided to travel abroad to further accelerate his motorsports career. After his first international outing, he traveled to Italy, where the racing proved to be more demanding, and decided to compete full-time abroad in the next year's season to ensure Mika didn't fall behind his international rivals.

Soon, the youngster found himself competing in the Danish F4 championship, where he impressed many with a rather successful first championship in 2022. In 2023, at the age of 14, Mika joined Fortec Motorsport to compete in the ROKiT F4 British Championship, certified by the FIA, and was the youngest driver to compete in round four.

After his first season, he secured a pole position and numerous top-ten finishes, which prompted his move to the Hitech team for 2024. The 2024 season was a promising step forward for the youngster, as he achieved three podiums, with one first-place finish and two second-place finishes.

Mika still expresses his determination to make it to the big leagues, and his team has high expectations for him as they prepare for the next season of racing. We love seeing South Africans excel in international sporting events, and with time on his side, we might see another local reach the pinnacle of racing.
