Armormax expands SA’s armoured vehicle range

In a country where firearm-related crime is a weekly reality, the demand for armoured vehicles is a necessity to some.

Armormax expands SA’s armoured vehicle range

Living in Mzansi means accepting that crime, often involving firearms, is part of the daily reality. Armed robberies at traffic lights, follow-home incidents, driveway shootings…these are conversations people have every week.

We’ve seen executives, politicians, business owners and ordinary citizens targeted, some even shot at in drive-by attacks. And honestly, there are moments when you watch the news and think that if that vehicle had been armoured, maybe the outcome could’ve been different.

This is why luxury vehicle armourer, Armormax, has announced a range of new models now available for armouring in SA for both B4 and, in some cases, B6 protection. For those not in the know, B4 protects against handguns. It’s lighter in weight and has less impact on vehicle performance. For the local context, the armour is best chosen for urban commuting, protection at traffic lights against smash-and-grab or opportunistic armed robbery situations.

B6 armour, on the other hand, is best suited for protection against assault rifles, as the protection is much heavier and has a greater impact on weight and cost. This type of protection is for high-profile individuals, executives, politicians, and people who are at an elevated risk of targeted attacks.

Some of the models eligible for armour include the BMW G60 5 Series, BYD Shark 6, Chery Tiggo 8, Ford Tourneo Custom, GWM Tank 500, GWM P300 and P500, Haval H6, Jetour T2, Volkswagen Tiguan, Volvo XC40 and Volvo EX90.

What immediately stands out is how the list showcases a clear move in the local market. There’s a rise in Chinese cars and electrified vehicles in SA. Importantly, Armormax isn’t new to this NEV space. You will remember that it became the first armouring company in 2022 to armour the electric Jaguar I-Pace.

It seems that more and more South Africans require that extra layer of protection on their car, so it makes sense that protection evolves with buying trends to cater to what people are actually driving.
