Continental partners with Mercedes-AMG Driving Experience as official tyre partner
Truth be told, tyres are among the most overlooked yet crucial components of any vehicle. They’re the only point of contact between the car and the road, which means the quality of the rubber you ride on matters more than most people realise.
That’s why Continental Tyre South Africa’s new partnership with Mercedes-Benz SA for the AMG Driving Experience is such a fitting move. Recently named TopGear South Africa’s 2024 Driving Academy of the Year, the AMG Experience, based at Zwartkops Raceway near Tshwane, gives drivers the chance to get behind the wheel of high-performance machines like the A45, C43, C63 S E Performance, and GT 63 S E Performance. Each of these now runs on Continental’s SportContact 7 ultra high-performance (UHP) tyres, perfectly complementing the precision and power that define the AMG brand.
It’s a smart pairing, to be frank, since the AMG Experience is all about precision, control, and safety at high speeds, exactly the qualities Continental’s tyres are engineered to deliver.
Speaking of the tyres, Continental says the SportContact 7 delivers exceptional grip and composure, qualities that translate into impressive precision and control, whether you’re attacking corners on the racetrack, tackling the slippery skid pan, or simply driving on the road in everyday conditions.
Look closer, and it’s clear there’s serious engineering behind that. For example, the tyre features a unique Macro Block tread design with a connected block structure on the outer shoulder, improving lateral force transmission when cornering. This is paired with an adaptive tread pattern, which maintains consistent and safe handling on both wet and dry surfaces, even at high speeds.
Then there’s the Harmonised BlackChili compound, formulated to achieve the perfect balance between tread design and rubber composition. Interestingly, the SportContact 7 is the first tyre Continental developed in different sizes to suit different vehicles and weights.
“We are delighted to join forces with Mercedes-Benz South Africa as its official tyre partner for the AMG Experience, equipping its high-performance vehicles with our Continental SportContact 7 tyres in a variety of 19 and 20-inch sizes,” says Dustine Gascoyne, Market Manager, Continental Tyre South Africa.
According to Clint Weston, AMG Experience Head Instructor, the partnership highlights Mercedes-Benz South Africa’s dedication to providing drivers with the very best in performance and control, while demonstrating the harmony between advanced automotive engineering and state-of-the-art tyre technology. Together, Mercedes-Benz and Continental are reshaping what it means to experience pure driving performance at its most exhilarating.
