iX M60 debuts as BMW’s first M-branded electric crossover

The first BMW M automobile designed for purely electric mobility from the outset has been given a green light.

BMW is upping the iX ante with the debut of its M60 variant which is the first M-branded electric crossover.

The BMW M60 joins the iX stable as the more powerful model packing two electric motors plus an 111.5 kWh battery pack that’s good for 455 kW and a maximum torque of 1,015 Nm in Sport Mode or 1,100 Nm with activated Launch Control. Under normal driving situations, the M60 churns out 397 kW.

With all that power, the new BMW iX M60 hurdles from a standstill to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds before hitting the top speed at 250 km/h. BMW claims it can travel up to 566 km before the battery pack requires a recharge.

For enhanced handling prowess, the iX M60 comes standard with adaptive air suspension with electronically-controlled shocks and rear-wheel steering.

To help reduce weight, BMW engineers made use of an aluminium spaceframe concept and carbon cage with carbon fibre reinforced plastic.

On the outside, the M60 features Individual Titanium Bronze accents, M logos in new high gloss black and titanium bronze at the back. It rides on standard 21″ wheels that can be upgraded to 22″ aerodynamic wheels.

The M60 can be had in seven colour options; Alpine White, Dark Graphite, Phytonic Blue, Blue Ridge Mountain, Storm Bay, Oxide Grey, and Aventurin Red.

Changes inside are subtle and are carried over from other iX models. The interior is bolstered with a standard BMW Live Cockpit that comprises a 12.3″ digital instrument cluster and a 14.9″ central touchscreen. The seats can be had in five different colour choices; Oyster, Mocha, Black, Amido, and Castanea Chestnut.

The list of standard features includes BMW Natural Interaction, Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, BMW Laser Light, Comfort Access, Active Seat Ventilation for driver and front passenger, and the Heat Comfort Package.

The new BMW iX M60 is manufactured alongside other fully-electric models at the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing with the global market launch earmarked to begin in June 2022.
