New Volkswagen Amarok Single-Cab Bakkie Priced For SA

In 2017, Volkswagen South Africa pulled the plug on its single-cab Amarok due to lagging demand for the workhorse, despite impressive technology backed up by potent powertrains.

Following the recent introduction of the second-generation Amarok, Volkswagen has confirmed the re-introduction of the single-cab business support Amarok that is earmarked to go on sale in Mzansi at the end of May.

The new Amarok single-cab models are available in 2.0-litre TDI engines in two states of tune and 5-speed and 6-speed manual transmissions.

Kickstarting the range is the 2.0-litre 4-cylinder TDI with 110 kW and 350 Nm accessed via a 5-speed manual transmission. This model comes standard with 16″ steel wheels, LED headlights, a full-size steel spare wheel, a height-adjustable driver seat, a 10″ touchscreen infotainment system, and an 8″ active-info instrument display.

The range-topping model is available with either rear-wheel-drive or the 4Motion system, and it’s powered by a 2.0-litre TDI engine that puts out 125 kW and 405 Nm. The model shuffles through a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Adding to the range-opening Amarok’s standard features, this model adds a rear differential lock, raised suspension, an improved payload capacity of over 1.2 tons and a trailer hitch. As for the load compartment, it measures 1,227 mm in length and can accommodate a standard European pallet which many owners will find generous.

Both models are available in Clear White, Midnight Black, Bright Blue, Light Grey, Dark Grey, Deep Red, Bright Beige and Mid Blue exterior shades.

Having the single-cab VW Amarok back on the shores gives local buyers more options. With all the strong attributes it brings to the table, it’s a workhorse at heart with some serious road presence.

  • Amarok Single Cab 2.0 TDI 110kW 5-speed manual: R499,000
  • Amarok Single Cab 2.0 TDI 125kW 6-speed manual: R575,000
  • Amarok Single Cab 2.0 TDI 125kW 4MOTION 6-speed manual: R646,000

The pricing includes a standard 4-year/120,000 km warranty and a 6-year anti-corrosion warranty, while the 125 kW models add a 3-year/60,000 km Easy Drive Service Plan.
