Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS TAG Heuer x Porsche – Legends of Panamericana: Special Editions Inspired by the 550 Coupes

1952 remains a memorable year for Porsche as it marks a special memory in the history of motorsport when the German carmaker built the 550 racing sports car, which established dominance in the 1.1 and 1.5-litre classes.

With only 90 Porsche 550s made, the coupes had a solid racing history, with the Nurburgring Eifel Race in 1953 being the first—a race where the sports car emerged victorious.

A few months later, two customer teams, each with a 550 coupe, took part in the Carrera Panamericana, and 70 years later, Porsche is celebrating the Carrera Panamericana Race Car with the introduction of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS TAG Heuer x Porsche – Legends of Panamericana. Quite a long name? We know.

The special model is based on the 718 Cayman GT4 RS which is hailed as an exceptional driver’s car.

Speaking of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS TAG Heuer x Porsche – Legends of Panamericana, Porsche revealed two vehicles with racing numbers, 152 and 154, which nod to the original Carrera Panamericana race cars.

As the name suggests, the special edition models were created in partnership with TAG Heuer, which has been a long-time partner in motorsports. Just so you know, this is the same company that presented a chronograph wristwatch specifically for racing drivers 60 years ago called the Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph.

Built at the Porsche Sonderwunsch workshop in Stuttgart with the help of Style Porsche, Porsche Latin America, Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, and TAG Heuer, the two sports cars feature bespoke design elements that nod to the iconic racers; these include the racing numbers 152 and 154 painted onto the doors and roofs of the cars, Le Mans Silver Metallic exterior shade on the window angles, air intake panels, and carbon-weave finished parts.

The exterior further gets a TAG Heuer insignia in a slightly darker grey colour in the middle of the bonnet and on the side blades of the rear wing, while a figurative word mark can also be seen through the rear window on the air filter box of the mid-engine and wheel hub covers.

The interior includes seats finished in Guards Red leather, with black treatment on the dashboard and door panel trim and aluminium finish on various points. There’s also a tricoloured cross-stitching in the colours of the Mexican flag and the TAG Heuer logo, a ‘GT4 RS Panamericana Special’ lettering on the door entry guards and on the cup-holder panel on the passenger side.

A Carrera Panamericana logo on the headrests, the lettering, and the stylised racing driver cap remain important elements of the models.

The special car with racing number 154 will debut this weekend at Rennsport Reunion 7 and will be on display at the ‘TAG Heuer Heritage Experience’ exhibition while the 152 will be auctioned in early 2024 for a good cause.
