RR Black Badge Ékleipsis Private Collection: Flamboyance Bar-None

Rolls-Royce will produce 25 cars, all of which are already designated.

Called the Ékleipsis Private Collection, Rolls-Royce has unveiled its bespoke Black Badge Ghost creation that takes its inspiration from the seldom-seen wonder of a solar eclipse.

The coachbuilder based in Goodwood, England, isn’t new to these kinds of creations. If you recall, the brand created the Wraith and Cullinan Blue Shadow, both inspired by Earth and the Kármán Line, respectively.

The Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection wears a stylish Lyrical Copper shade incorporating powdered copper pigment. There’s a lot going on, if we’re honest and aren’t exactly surprised.

For example, Rolls-Royce says that the pigment appears darker until it catches the light, while the Mandarin shade adorns the inserts below the Pantheon Grille and black brake callipers. The combination reminds us of the intense pulses of sunlight that we usually see during an eclipse. The marque has also used the same Mandarin colour on the hand-painted coachline.

The illuminated front fascia of the Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis is adorned with 1,846 laser-etched ‘stars’ in a symbolic timeline of a total eclipse. According to Rolls-Royce, a single designer had the duty to adjust each individual size and position of each star, a process that took over 100 hours to finish.

Rolls-Royce also offers a Bespoke timepiece that features a brilliant-cut 0.5-carat diamond and a precious gemstone with a dark aluminium surround.

Gold twilight accents create the impression of a sunset from every angle, and bicolor seats feature a one-of-a-kind perforated artwork with more than 200,000 holes.

Other interior features include bold Mandarin leather tinted in a black shade, illuminated treadplates, umbrellas with Mandarin piping concealed in the coach doors, a unique indoor motor car cover with the Private Collection’s wordmark, and a fully Bespoke Starlight Headliner.

What stands out for us, though, is that the stars in the Starlight headliner darken, and a sequence of replication of the totality of the solar eclipse immediately begins when the engine is fired up and the doors are closed. The whole animation process takes about 7 minutes and 31 seconds, and after that, the full constellation of ‘stars’ in the night sky is restored.

Rolls-Royce has plans to build only 25 examples of the Black Badge Ghost Ékleipsis Private Collection, and all units have been allocated to clients across the world.
