Suzuki Swift pricing and derivatives

The Suzuki Swift has established itself as a go-to vehicle for budget-conscious drivers. Its quirky style and reliable, frugal motor have grown in popularity, and now there is a new one.

The Swift now comes in three specification options, all of which include the new 3-cylinder, 1.2-litre Z12E engine that delivers 60kW and 112Nm of torque. It’s strapped to a choice of either a 5-speed manual or CVT transmission and clocking the scales at 908kg.

In terms of derivatives, the new Swift offers three options, beginning with the GL, followed by the GL+, and finally the GLX. Steel wheels, an electronically adjustable side view mirror, an immobiliser and alarm system, LED tail lights and stop lamps, ESP, hill-hold control, ISOFIX, and a rear parking sensor are all standard features of the entry-level GL. This allows for a well-specified product right out of the box, and at R219,900 and only available in manual gearbox, the GL is a good value for money option.

The GL+ expands on the already well-specified base model by including a 7-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as 15-inch alloy wheels, a rearview camera, and the option of a 5-speed manual or CVT gearbox. The GL+ is priced at R239,900 for the manual and R259,900 for the CVT.

Lastly, the top-spec GLX is what Suzuki claims to be the luxury example of the Swift and ships as standard with LED projector headlamps over the standard halogens, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lamps, 15-inch diamond-cut alloys, tweeter speakers, a larger 9-inch infotainment screen, automatic climate control, automatically closing mirrors, paddle shifters for the CVT, and lastly, a leather-clad steering wheel. The GLX is priced at R264,900 for the manual and R284,900 for the CVT.

The Swift is a popular hatchback, and at this price point, we expect the new generation to be a hit.
