Suzuki unveils the new Swift at FoM

The Festival of Motoring provides the perfect backdrop for releasing new products to the nation, and this weekend, the public will get a close-up look at the all-new Suzuki Swift. The Swift is a massively popular hatchback that excels in thriftiness.

Suzuki has sold a whopping 85,000 units in SA since 2008, and with a new one on the block, the Swift has become even more youthful. Its new look has refined the Swift’s aesthetic, offering a more present and modern look.

Under the bonnet, Suzuki has opted for a new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder motor, fitted with the code name Z12E. This little engine produces 60kW and 112Nm, which is pushed through a choice of either a 5-speed manual or CVT transmission. The decision to use a 3-cylinder motor was made after Suzuki discovered better low-end torque, thermal management, and efficiency.

Alongside the new motor, the suspension, steering, chassis, and interior have all been improved on the fourth-generation model to ensure a pleasant ownership experience.

The new Swift will also come with five spec levels: the GL, GL+, and the more premium level, the GLX. The GL+ and the GLX will offer a choice of either the manual or CVT, while the GL will come standard with 14-inch steel wheels. The high-spec GL+ and GLX, on the other hand, will come with 15-inch alloy wheels.

The headlights have also been changed to accommodate DRLs, new headlight clusters, and LED bulbs. The front gloss black bumper further adds to the refreshed aesthetic, which blends with the clamshell bonnet. Lastly, the darkened pillars ensure the look is interesting and bold.

Inside the cabin, the GL and GL+ are fitted with a 7-inch infotainment screen, while the GLX boasts a large 9-inch screen. The GLX also offers a leather-clad steering wheel, paddle shifters for the CVT, cruise control, a push-to-start button, folding mirrors, and automatic headlights.

More information about the pricing will be available once the vehicle is officially launched.
