On Trend: T-Roc enters the SUV fray
Unveiled at VW Indaba 2026, the Volkswagen T-Roc is officially on the cards for 2026. It’s the urban trendmobile that sits under the Tiguan and above the T-Cross in VW’s T-SUV line-up. This one sports VW’s latest design language and a host of recycled materials. Its IQ Matrix LED headlights and illuminated grille and logos should make for a popular choice and of course, the R-line treatment will be favourably popular too.
VW Commercial Vehicles Incoming
VW Caravelle T7 eHybrid
After the international launch of the Volkswagen Transporter a year ago, the all-new Caravelle T7 will join the range. More versatile in its cabin layout and seating configuration options, the Caravelle will boast a new Plug-in hybrid powertrain with 180kW of power and a plethora of driver assistance features within VW’s IQ Drive Travel Assist suite. Big news here – no bench seats. Every individual seat will be movable/turnable with smart inclusion of tables and storage spaces.
VW Amarok Walkinshaw Edition
In yet another VW-Walkinshaw collab, the Amarok Walkinshaw edition takes a flagship Amarok and turns it up a notch. Expect sharper handling through enhanced suspension, aesthetic updates and possibly even a performance boost. The Walkinshaw Amarok will be sold and backed by the Volkswagen network.
VW Polo Vivo Express
Not to be outdone by other last-mile and courier market offerings, VW’s Polo Vivo Express is ready to go. With a half-ton payload, the Vivo Express is locally built, a segment leader in payload, and probably as reliable as you can get. But what is also most important in the segment is the total cost of running these hard-working cars. The Polo Vivo should perform brilliantly here too, with strong fuel efficiency and cheap running costs, i.e., tyres, parts and servicing. That car is already available at dealers nationwide.
VW Amarok 2.3 TSI [222kW]
Officially launched late in 2025, the Amarok 2.3 TSI is the Amarok’s most powerful offering with 222kW from the 2.3-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. 452Nm of torque through a 10-speed automatic transmission lays the foundation for a smooth-running, refined double-cab experience for those looking for an alternative to the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel.
Beyond the 222kW, the Amarok range will also feature a few tweaks to the trim levels and the engine options.
Performance Heroes: GTI’s Galore
Volkswagen Polo GTI Edition 20
It’s another milestone celebration as VW introduces the 20-year anniversary edition of the Polo GTI. The Edition 20 will be considerably more desirable because of this, but it will also come with some fancy aesthetic touches and updates: The most important is an Edition 20 Crystal Ice Blue colour, updated alloy wheels finished in black to complement the new black mirror caps.
Volkswagen Golf GTI
It’s already here, but it’s still important to mention that the new Golf 8.5 GTI is indeed on sale in Mzansi. Despite initial reports of it not coming to SA, the GTI has eventually made landfall. Featuring an updated interior, VWSA has brought in 300 units that are highly specified and priced at R1M bucks. No good news on the Golf R making a return, but we can continue to hope that fuel quality woes will be dealt with in the near future. VW SA itself is working with local stakeholders around improving this.
