What? First-ever bulletproof Golf 8 GTI will take a bullet for you

Though it may seem quite bizarre, Armormax has revealed its bulletproof Volkswagen Golf 8 GTI armoured to a B4 ballistic level.

The Golf 8 GTI is the first model under the VW banner to get this treatment in SA and worldwide. Why does the armouring company say there is a demand for such a vehicle?

Adding less than 180 kg to the overall weight of the standard Golf 8 GTI, the armouring conversion consists of an Optima ballistic glass that replaces the standard glass, synthetic armour for the roof, and door panels, pillars, rear seats, all doors, and sunroof. Armormax has also installed a PTT intercom system as an added safety measure.

As you’ve guessed, the entire commission doesn’t come cheap. You can expect to fork out up to R1.8 million.

Armormax isn’t new when it comes to armouring the Golf. If you recall, the folks armoured an entire fleet of Golf 7 cars ranging from the 1.4 TSI to the high-end R in 2018.

“The B4 Golf was a daring project in 2018 but was met with immense interest, and several orders were taken. There was never a question that we would develop the world’s first armouring package for the new model, knowing there would be a high demand. Its most popular application remains in the private security sector as a chase, rapid response and principal extraction vehicle”, says Michael Broom, Marketing Manager for Armormax.
