The Vanquish is back with Volante in its name, and its style matches its screams with the wind in your hair.

Aston Martin’s new V12 drop-top is here.

News of petrol-powered sports cars is becoming increasingly exciting in a world of electrification, and an icon in the world of perfect motors has returned with no compromise. Aston Martin is a brand that puts character first, and its Vanquish is something of a masterpiece. Now, it’s back with a stunning open-air look and a 5.2-litre twin-turbocharged V12.

There is something particularly magical about a V12, its smooth yet overwhelming power and brutal yet recognisable tone sit high on the throne of the automotive hierarchy. So it’s great to see Aston do what they do best. This time around, this twin-turbocharged V12 pumps out a potent 614kW and 1000Nm, allowing this work of art of a coupe to rocket to 100km/h in 3.4 seconds. This isn’t as fast as I was expecting, but it’s clear they are leaning heavily on the touring aspect. It also boasts a rather impressive top speed of 344km/h.

In return, we now have a look at the most powerful open-top Aston Martin to date, but performance is only half of the equation, as this luxury brand must look the part too. From numerous air ducts to utterly gorgeous lines, the Vanquish captures the Aston Martin silhouette perfectly, with a gaping mouth leading the way. The front end offers aggression, with the side profile displaying an element of fluidity and smoothness. All brought together in the fire and flames at the tailpipes.

Realistically, you will rarely see the front in the flesh, as it will likely drive past in a blur, and it’s clear that Aston agrees, as the rear end tops my charts for the prettiest rear I have seen on a car. Four square pipes provide the V12 roar, and the minimalistic yet dynamic lines throughout the tail can hypnotise most into staring for hours. I would be so bold as to say the new Vanquish is one of the prettiest cars I have seen.

The interior commands attention, too, and there is a focus on the driver. With unique colour patterns and a familiar piano black centre console providing the touch of luxury, its customers demand, and the addition of a drop-top means the world can see all the money you spent on speccing every inch of the cabin. It is a gorgeous place, but not overcomplicated, and it’s clear that attention to detail was of utmost priority.

Fortunately for us, this neck-snapper of a car will be arriving in July to August of this year, and the Volante will start off at R10,749,000. So make sure to keep an eye out for a near-perfect V12 Aston Martin Vanquish either on the roads or here at TopGear SA.
