New BMW X1 officially priced for Mzansi

Built at the BMW Group Plant in Regensburg, BMW South Africa has finally put the price tag on its new X1 that brings with it significant upgrades over its predecessor.

While the fully-electric iX1 is earmarked to join the fray in the first quarter of 2023, only the sDrive18i and sDrive18d variants in xLine and M Sport guises are now on sale in Mzansi.

As speculated earlier this year, the sDrive18i packs a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that pumps out 115 kW and 230 Nm of torque. The sDrive18d on the other hand, makes use of a bigger 2.0-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel unit with 110 kW and 360 Nm of torque. Both models use a 7-speed Steptronic that drives the front wheels as standard.

Regarding the looks, the new X1 has gone through a major makeover to make it stand out in its respective segment. The improvements consist of slim LED headlights, LED taillights, an oversized kidney grille, as well as more potent proportions.

The base xLine trim equips the X1 with stylish underbody protection amongst other design elements, while the M Sport package adds features highly associated with dynamic driving pleasure, such as large cooling air intakes.

As standard, the X1 rides on 18″ alloy wheels that can be upgraded to 19″ or 20″ for the first time on a X1. The X1 can be had with a choice of two solid and ten metallic exterior hues including a Frozen paint option from the BMW Individual basket.

The X1 further benefits from the 3 Series’ curved digital dashboard that consists of a 10.25″ information display that spawns the new iDrive Operating System 8 and a 10.7″ control display. For comfort’s sake, the X1 comes with a total of four USB Type-C ports, BMW digital assistance, navigation plus over-the-air updates.

The boot space is rated at 540 litres and can be further expanded to a maximum of 1,600 litres by folding down the 40:20:40 rear seats. BMW offers the fore, and aft adjustment of the rear seats, mirror package, ambient lighting, panoramic glass sunroof, adaptive M suspension, Harman Kardon Sound System as well as an electrically-operated trailer tow hitch as options.

The new X1 comes standard with technological advances such as cruise control with brake function and front-collision warning system and Parking Assistant, including Reversing Assist Camera and Reversing Assistant.

A steering and lane control assistant, active cruise control with Stop&Go function, exit warning function, BMW Head-Up Display, Surround View, Remote 3D View, BMW Drive Recorder and Remote Theft Recorder functions can be ordered as options.
