70 years of Ferrari racing in SA, now documented in one book
Seven decades of Ferrari racing in South Africa, and until now, none of that history had been properly documented in one place. That changes with the release of a new book capturing the full story of the marque’s local motorsport history, from its debut in 1955 right through to the present day.
The book, a collaboration between SA Motorsport Memories and Pablo Clark Racing, spans 384 pages and features over 650 carefully curated images, many of which have never been seen by the public. With captions in both English and Italian, it documents comprehensive race results, event histories, chassis numbers, technical specifications, driver line-ups, and previously untold personal stories.
Authored by Denis Klopper, the Kyalami Circuit promoter for many years and the man behind the 500-page Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit: 60 Years of Memories, the new book was unveiled at an exclusive media launch at Pablo Clark Racing’s headquarters, situated where the original Kyalami straight once ran. Many of the images were sourced from private collectors, giving the book a depth that no archive search could reproduce.
It pays tribute to the legendary drivers, engineers, and personalities who shaped Ferrari’s local racing success, and explores the roles of SEFAC and Pablo Clark Racing in building the local Ferrari community. There’s also a dedicated tribute to the late Giorgio Cavalieri (1947–2020), a central figure in the brand’s local chapter.
Two editions are available: the Tifosi Edition, which is limited to 650 copies and priced at R2,300, and the exclusive numbered Campioni Edition, of which only 100 signed copies are available at R8,625.
If motorsport is your thing, this one isn’t optional. Seven decades of Ferrari racing in South Africa, the drivers, the machines, the politics, the personalities all documented in one place for the first time. It’s a piece of local motorsport history you can now hold in your hands.
