BMW M2 gets M Performance Track treatment
There’s something properly honest about the BMW M2. In BMW M’s high-performance food chain, it’s the so-called ‘entry point’, and yet, there’s nothing entry-level about the way this thing moves.
Sometimes, though, being capable isn’t enough. Sometimes you want it to look like it means business. And that’s exactly where BMW M’s new M Performance Track Kit comes in. Because, in their words, ‘a track car should look like… a track car’.
Starting with the aero, there’s a manually adjustable front splitter integrated with the front diffuser to increase downforce, wheel arch diffusers, and even a scoop beneath the engine oil cooler. At the back, the M2 gets a manually adjustable swan-neck rear wing borrowed straight from the BMW M4 GT4 and BMW M4 GT3 racers.
The wing features a bespoke ‘Race Mode’ that moves it 50mm towards the back for enhanced aerodynamics with a high-level brake light integrated into the rear wing. The kit also includes a threaded chassis with 4-way adjustable rebound and compression damping, adjustable support bearings, and a chassis that can be lowered by up to 20mm at the front and back.
The M Performance Track Kit will be available from July 2026, priced at €23,500 (around R500,000). The price excludes installation, which isn’t exactly cheap, but then again, there’s usually a price to pay for improved looks.
The new BMW M2 CS isn’t left out either. It comes with an optional M Performance exhaust system featuring carbon and titanium trim. BMW claims it’s around 8kg lighter than the standard system. ‘Exceptional’ is the word BMW M uses to describe its sound, and if you want it, BMW South Africa says its availability is subject to local homologation.
The M2 has always been a competitive piece of kit. It punches well above its weight, no matter where you are. And if that sounds like we’re exaggerating, just look at how well it performed against some serious contenders at our 2025 Speed Week. As for the kit, it’s just a welcome addition.
